Anachronistic Pioneer
Picture of the Day for 7/14/2012. A common activity for Mormons is to go on a "trek" to recreate the experience of their pioneer ancestors crossing the plains while pushing handcarts. Part of the experience requires dressing in pioneer garb which means long dresses, aprons, and bonnets for the women/girls. I noticed this family (pictured above) sitting across from me at the restaurant where I met a friend for lunch today. They had obviously just returned from trek as they were still dressed in their pioneer clothing. It was a little jarring to see the mother texting on her iPhone. That was definitely not part of the 19th century pioneer experience.
