Twin Sisters

Picture of the Day for 4/25/2013. My niece Michelle is in town and met us at family lunch today. She shattered her ankle a couple of years ago and has been undergoing a series of surgeries ever since. Her younger sister Corinne recently had foot surgery herself. They look like twins with their matching foot braces.

Dilated Eyes

Picture of the Day for 4/24/2013. Had an eye appointment today. The optometrist dilated my eyes so he could check for signs of cataracts and glaucoma. No problem there- my eyes are in excellent shape. I'm just glad I arrived home in excellent shape. I discovered you can't see much when your eyes are dilated- important things like the road and traffic signs. The dilation was only supposed to last for a couple of hours, but it ended up lasting for several hours. The blurry vision was giving me a head-ache so I used my general cure-all as a remedy- a nice long nap.

Hissy Fit

Picture of the Day for 4/23/2013. When I was at the Atlanta airport a few days ago, I needed some reading material so I decided to pick up a book by a southern writer. I selected Mary Kay Andrews' "Hissy Fit." It's about the aftermath of a woman throwing the mother of all hissy fits after she finds her fiance dallying with her maid of honor at the rehearsal dinner. Can't blame her.

Bad Behavior

Picture of the Day for 4/22/2013. I went to the post office to pick up my mail after being on vacation where I witnessed this guy having a total meltdown. There's a sign clearly stating that the clerks will be happy to help you once you've completed your cell phone conversation. This guy was speaking on his cell phone and went ballistic when the clerks wouldn't help him. He became even further inflamed when the policy was explained to him. There was a LOT of yelling. Bad, immature behavior at its worst.

Cherry Blossom Time

Picture of the Day for 4/21/2013. It's cherry blossom time! Spring may actually have arrived! About dang time.

Traveling Companions

Picture of the Day for 4/20/2013. It turns out my flight home was scheduled an hour later than I thought which meant I had time to run out to the Kennedy Space Center for a really quick visit. While there, I stopped at the information desk to ask a question and was helped by a blonde French-Canadian woman named Marie. Apparently, she was nearing the end of her shift, because she showed up on my flight and we ended up sitting by each other. We both recognized each other immediately. We had a great time chatting and even had dinner together at the Atlanta airport before going our separate ways to catch our connecting flights.

When I was boarding my flight from Atlanta to Salt Lake City, I was standing behind a woman who reminded me of my friend Jenny. Turns out, it really was my friend Jenny! She and her husband Steve were on their way home from a vacation. The woman who was supposed to sit next to Jenny volunteered to switch seats with me so I was able to spend the flight chatting with my friend. This very blurry photo is of Steve picking up their luggage.

Seminole Country Inn

Picture of the Day for 4/19/2013. Visited the Seminole Country Inn in Indiantown, Florida. It's one of those old charming establishments that time has somewhat forgotten.

The inn was built in 1926 by Wallis Simpson's uncle who was hoping Indiantown would become a major railroad outpost. Didn't happen. Naturally, there are several picture of her and the Duke of Windsor.

It also has a very impressive mural that depicts the history of the Seminole Indian tribe.

Grassy Waters Preserve

Picture of the Day for 4/18/2013. At the recommendation of a friend, I visited the Grassy Waters Preserve in West Palm Beach, Florida. I spent a very pleasant hour there walking along the boardwalks and enjoying the beautiful scenery. I came across a baby alligator, but it blended in so much with the murky water that I didn't bother taking a picture.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Picture of the Day for 4/17/2013. Visited the Loggerhead Marinelife Center where ill or injured sea turtles are brought for rehabilitation. The center released three turtles back into the ocean today which I would have liked to witness, but unfortunately I missed the event by about an hour.

This particular turtle was just as interested in the visitors as the visitors were with it.

I got a kick out this turtle's camouflage bandage.

Jupiter Lighthouse

Picture of the Day for 4/16/2013. Visited the Jupiter Lighthouse (built in 1860) which is located in Jupiter, Florida (hence the moniker Jupiter Lighthouse). You might think this is an unnecessary clarification, but I mentioned to a friend that I had visited the Jupiter Lighthouse and she asked where it was. Um...in Jupiter.

I've been trying to visit this landmark during my past several trips to Florida, but had never been successful so I was glad to finally get there.

View from the top of the lighthouse.

Inside the lighthouse lantern.

Outside the lighthouse lantern. There was an interesting optical illusion when you leaned back against the rail and looked up at the lantern. It appeared the lighthouse was moving and just about to topple over on you. That was cool. I tried it several times.

Walking up the lighthouse stairs.

Squirrel Hurler

Picture of the Day for 4/15/2013. As mentioned in a previous blog entry, I'm proofreading Robynne's latest speech therapy product offering- a series of speech therapy workbooks with over 400 pages of illustrated tongue twisters that will help therapists drill the R, S, L, SH, CH, and TH sounds with their students. I was particularly amused by "Charlie Hurley is a burly squirrel hurler." I love the image of the poor unsuspecting squirrels being flung through the air.

4/16/2013 Update: I took this picture of a squirrel at the Jupiter Lighthouse in honor of Charley Hurley the squirrel hurler. And for my niece Lisa who is a little obsessed with squirrels.

Ft. Pierce Sunset

Picture of the Day for 4/14/2013. Sunset over Ft. Pierce, Florida.
