Discovery Tour
Picture of the Day for 4/14/2012. I went on a special bus tour at the Kennedy Space Center that took us close to the space shuttle mate-demate device that "is a large gantry-like steel structure used to hoist the orbiters off the ground during mating and demating operations with the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA)." In this instance, the space shuttle Discovery is being prepared for its upcoming flight on the back of a 747 to its eventual home at the Smithsonian.
The bus let us off at the Apollo/Saturn V Center where I managed to snap some interesting close-up photos of the massive Saturn V rocket on display.
