Amish Documentary

Picture of the Day for 10/18/2015. I watched a PBS American Experience documentary today called The Amish: Shunned. Very interesting. It was a fair and balanced documentary, but it's clear life among the Amish isn't as idyllic as we think. I became totally obsessed with Saloma Furlong's story. She was featured prominently in the documentary.  Furlong grew up Amish, but left her community and faith in her early 20s. It took a couple of tries for her to really leave for good and she ended up marrying a man she met during her first attempt to join "English" society.  Furlong has written two memoirs, one about growing up Amish and one about leaving the Amish. I'm looking forward to reading them.
