New Year's Tradition

Picture of the Day for 1/1/2015. I had my "somewhat" annual New Year's Day visit with my 89-year-old neighbor Erma. I've mentioned on this blog before about how my mother and Erma had an annual tradition of getting together on New Year's Day for a visit. Erma and I are trying to carry on that tradition. During today's visit, Erma was showing me a photo album she had assembled for her daughter Ellie's son. I was charmed by this photograph of Erma, her husband Don, and her daughter Ellie. It looks like an all-American setting, but this photograph was taken in 1950 in Tokyo, Japan where Don was stationed as General Douglas MacArthur's navigator after the war.
