Halloween 2015

Picture of the Day for 10/31/2015. It's Halloween! I didn't feel like dragging out all my boxes of decorations from the basement so I ended up just buying a few new things.

Here's my window display with bows tied around pumpkins I was too lazy to carve nestled between paper pumpkins.

I threw some ceramic pumpkins on top of a cake stand I pulled out of a kitchen shelf.

I slapped a bow on a black wreath.

And for the first time ever I strung Halloween lights on my railing.

Had lots of trick-or-treaters- including my cute great-nephew Ethan and cute great-niece Sadie. They even showed up twice! Smart kids- they got twice the candy.

And here are the older kids, Dane and Hayley, dressed up in their costumes.

And the finishing touch to the whole evening was seeing my nephew Rob wearing a witch hat.

Worst Artwork Display

Picture of the Day for 10/30/2015. I purchased an original oil painting of a bison in the mists from the thermal features in Yellowstone. This is a common sight in Yellowstone and I should know since I used to work there in the early 1990s. The painting made me so nostalgic. I haven't been to Yellowstone since 2008 and I miss it terribly.

My sister Robynne claimed I would not hang up this painting. I have a ton of artwork that I've never displayed. So, to prove her wrong, I hung it in my bedroom on a random nail already in the wall. This is absolutely the least artistic arrangement ever but at least it's on the wall!

Dancing Man of Holladay, Utah

Picture of the Day for 10/28/2015. This guy is a common sight in my neighborhood- dancing along the sidewalks. He was charged with disorderly conduct, but the charges were dropped earlier this month. Good to see him out dancing again.

Clumsy Shopper

Picture of the Day for 10/27/2015. You know that country store in rural Ohio I visited a couple of days ago? I'm sure they were happy to see me go. I dropped these Thanksgiving turkey votive candle holders on the floor with a loud crash and then I tripped over a basket and sent it tumbling down the stairs. Even though I hadn't damaged the turkey candle holders I ended up buying them to make up for my "bull in a china shop" antics.  I don't have a lot of Thanksgiving decorations so I was happy to buy them.

Birds in Peril

Picture of the Day for 10/26/2015. Before I left on my trip to Ohio this past week, my sister Robynne sent me an email with a laundry list of things I needed to do for Teach Speech Now. The last item on the list was "Prepare your birds for a week of hell at the Collins' house." My two parakeets go live with their Aunt Robynne and Uncle Will Collins whenever I'm out of town. In response to that threat I made this sign which I was going to attach to the bird cage before I brought them over. Sadly, I was so rushed to get out the door that I forgot.

Apparently, the birds really were in for a week of hell. Here are the texts I got from Robynne while I was gone.

Things I Saw on My Scenic Drive Today #2

Picture of the Day for 10/24/2015. Here are the things I saw on today's sightseeing excursions in the Dayton, Ohio area:

The Wright Flyer Museum where there is a working replica of one of the Wright brothers' early model planes. They weren't making any flights out today, but I did get to sit in the plane. Neil Armstrong once got a ride in this plane!

Beautiful river scenery. Walked along this riverbank for about an hour. It was so beautiful and peaceful. I love Ohio.
